Andean Wedding in the Sacred Valley

Did you know that ?

The Andean wedding is an ancestral tradition that has passed from generation to generation. This symbolic act reflects the harmony and balance between man and woman, represented respectively by the Sun and the Moon, a union that transcends the physical and connects with the cosmic energy of the universe and the nature that surrounds us.

What is Andean Wedding?

It is an ancestral and sacred ritual that has been celebrated since ancient times. The most important aspect of this ceremony is the deep bond the couple creates with nature, as it is a commitment that goes beyond love between the spouses. With Andean wedding, the couple aims to grow together every day, strengthening their love and fidelity while honoring and connecting with the natural elements around them. This tradition remains alive in the Andes to this day.

First, the ceremony takes place in the Sacred Valley in Cusco, which is carefully chosen, where the masters will guide the future spouses.

Then the masters will establish a special connection with the spirits of the mountains and also with Mother Earth, then they explain the meaning of the ceremony to be held.

In addition, the bride and groom receive a purification as part of the preparation for the engagement.

Likewise, an essential and fundamental element of the ritual is the offering to Pachamama, as a sign of gratitude for all the blessings she has given and will continue to give to the spousal union. This offering reflects the respect and gratitude towards nature.

In the Andean cosmovision, love is seen as a deep and transcendental bond. From this moment on, the couple begins a journey together, a pure and committed love, always in connection with the earth that surrounds them.

How is the Andean wedding and celebrated?

  • Selection of the place and date: The first step is to choose the date and place, places that are considered of great energy and protection of choice by the couple.
  • Purification of the bride and groom: Before starting the ritual, the bride and groom must go through a previous purification (sahúmo, condor feather or herbs) since this has the objective of cleansing the energies and prepare them spiritually for the engagement.
  • Explanation of the ritual: Afterwards, the teachers who lead the ceremony give a detailed explanation about the meaning of the Andean wedding.
  • Offering to the Pachamama: This is an essential step, because a series of symbolic offerings are prepared as a token of gratitude for all the blessings that she has bestowed and will continue to bestow on the spousal union.
  • The exchange of vows: the bride and groom make an exchange of vows, not only of love and fidelity to each other, but also of respect and commitment to nature.
  • Celebratory toast: This act symbolizes the joy and celebration of the new union, giving thanks for the love and abundance to come.
  • Final Blessing: The ritual culminates with a blessing by the spiritual master, who invokes the protection of Pachamama and the spirits of nature over the married couple.

What to wear for an Andean Wedding

For the bride and groom it is recommended to wear a typical costume, comfortable shoes, sandals or barefoot, depending on the comfort and the place of the ceremony. However, the chosen attire is the final decision of the couple.
